Academic Advising

Online Advising

Each student is responsible for choosing and registering in his/her courses during the on-line advising period; otherwise, the schedule will be done by the academic advisor and the student will not be allowed to make any adjustments on it. The students should maintain regular contact with their assigned advisors to ensure fulfillment of university and departmental requirements and to remain aware of any changes in programs and requirements.

An academic advisor assists in the following:
01

Selection of courses each semester

02

Approval of the student’s academic load and add/drop procedures

03

Follow up on the student’s academic progress

04

Follow up cases of probation & suspended students

05

Each student is required to achieve a GPA not less than 2.00

Students must

maintain a minimum CUM GPA of 2.00 at the end of the academic semester or will be placed on a probation student, i.e. take a light load (4 courses + English Fundamentals (non credit) OR 3 courses + ENG100 or Freshman (credit).

Students who fail

to maintain a GPA of 2.00 will be placed on academic probation and will be restricted to a load of 12 credit hours or 4 courses per semester. Students on probation who are enrolled in the faculties of Pharmacy or Engineering can register for a maximum of 14 credit hours.
The probationary period provides students with an opportunity to correct the deficiency in their GPA. This period may last for no more than three regular semesters. If students fail to achieve the required grade average by the end of the probationary period, they will be expelled.

A student is not

allowed to increase his/her academic load (i.e. take an overload) unless he/she spends ONE academic year and achieves a GPA of 3.00 or above

Faculties of Al-Alsun, Mass Communication, Business Administration, Computer science
Overload (More than 18 Credit Hours).
Faculties of Pharmacy, Engineering
Overload (More than 22 Credit Hours).

When a student fails

in a course he/she receives an F grade; in this case the credit hours are counted with zero points and no hours are earned.

In case of repeating the course in which the student received an F

the maximum grade to be achieved is C or less. An R letter is written before the grade, which stands for (Repeated). Once the course is repeated, its points will appear in the student transcript with zero credit hours, as the credit hours of the repeated course are waived in the cumulative GPA and are only counted once when he/she failed.

Repeating a failed course

helps the student raise his/her GPA.
